NVU Finally! A complete Web Authoring System for Linux desktop users as well as Microsoft Windows and Macintosh users to rival programs like FrontPage and Dreamweaver. Nvu (which stands for “new view”) makes managing a web site a snap. Now anyone can create web pages and manage a website with no technical expertise or knowledge of HTML.

The Gimp

GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It works on many operating systems, in many languages.
7-Zip

7-Zip is a file archiver with the high compression ratio. The program supports 7z, ZIP, CAB, RAR, ARJ, LZH, CHM, GZIP, BZIP2, Z, TAR, CPIO, RPM and DEB formats. Compression ratio in the new 7z format is 30-50% better than ratio in ZIP format
WordPress - A PHP blogging engine, but suitable to many non-blog web sites.
Drupal - One of the best CMSs available, implemented in PHP.
Firefox is, what I consider, a decent internet browser available. It’s much safer than using Internet Explorer. It’s also highly customizable with many extensions and themes. Some web pages are not viewed well in Firefox and you have to download a flash player,. However, the development team continues to produce superior code and I’m always eager to see what they come up with next.
Open Office is a full document-editing suite. It can handle text documents, spreadsheets, presentations, databases, and more. It is compatible with all of the current document file types and is a wonderful free alternative to Microsoft Office.
