My Path
![]()
I’ve always believed that the mind-body-spirit connection was crucial to one’s well-being. It’s been a fun and interesting journey integrating this into my life. I love what I’m doing and I can’t wait to wander and wonder along the path that has been set before me! My first step along this path was earning my Bachelor’s degree in education and becoming a public school teacher. I went on to get my Master’s Degree in Creative Arts. It was during this time that I began reading a book on Feng Shui and was so excited when I realized I had been practicing a crude version of this most of my life. I decided to go get some formal training. This training began to open my eyes to many of the wonderful ways we can reconnect to the person we are designed to be. Since then, I have been providing home and business consultations, space clearings, house blessings and teaching others about Feng Shui and in doing so realized that there is a healing component inherent in this process. I liked the way I felt and the way it made others feel. This caused me to want to learn about other forms of healing. I began to study Reiki and eventually became a Reiki Master in the Usui and Celtic methods. I’m particularly fond of Celtic Reiki for two reasons. One reason is because I’m a nature lover and this form of Reiki uses the Earth’s energies and the energies of trees as part of the healing process. And second, because it allows me to present a healing session specifically designed for an individuals needs, on a given day, by selecting the corresponding energies for that individual’s healing and manifestation process. My latest journey is in becoming a certified Reflexologist. I wanted to have a complimentary health modality that was widely accepted by the general public. I enjoy working with clients in this very practical and effective manner. The results can often be noticeable very soon after a session and this is very satisfying to me as well as the clients I work with. I will continue to educate myself so that the mind-body-spirit connection will be evident in what I do for others and for myself as well.
Feng Shui (pronounced fung shway) is the 5,000 year-old Chinese art of placement which has emerged into its present form through my teacher, Grand Master Lin Yun, who has taken into account modern technology, 21st century lifestyles, ecology, psychology, spirituality and western customs.
Feng Shui is now used and respected by architects, real estate developers, designers and corporate executives who have see the results that feng shui brings.
The placement of your home or business, the placement of your furnishings and the design of the landscape can enhance the life-giving energy in the environment. Through proper adjustments and corrections stresses can be relieved, human relations improved, and productivity increased. As a result, your home will become a serene, soul-nourishing sanctuary and your business will become one that attracts customers.
It’s All About Energy!
Everything is made up of energy, or chi. Chi is the life-force in everything; It is both personal and environmental. Chi moves through your home/business and influences you daily by traveling within the environment you’ve created.
Unfortunately, sometimes chi can become blocked or stagnated, resulting in weakened chi. Or, it may run through your home/business too quickly, or affect you too strongly.
Fortunately, chi can easily be re-directed, for it is attracted to light, eye-catching objects, color, living things, pleasant sounds, reflective objects, and prefers to move along curved pathways.
A feng shui practitioner can help you determine areas where chi is blocked, stagnant, or too strong and make suggestions for adjustments - bringing balance back to your environment.
Home and Business Consultations
About the Consultation . . .
We will spend the first part of your consultation discussing your main objectives and concerns. After careful assessment of your space, I will suggest adjustments and remedies tailored to your needs. These are often simple, fun and inexpensive. We will uncover the heart and soul of your house and awaken the spirit of your business. Internal and external worlds are suddenly in harmony. I can help you create an environment that supports your success, guides your spirit, enlivens your creativity, promotes your health and nurtures your relationships.
Space Clearings
Have you ever noticed how some homes make you feel energized and uplifted while others cause you to feel anxious or exhausted? You have experienced the ch’i (energy) of the home.

Kate will come to your home and provide a ceremony for you which encourages positive energy to come into your home and rid your home of any energy imbalances.

Kate’s Training
Kate Trnka is a certified Feng Shui practitioner. She received her beginning and advanced training as a student of Carol Bridges (author of A Soul in Place: Reclaiming Home as Sacred Space) at Nine Harmonies School of Feng Shui.
Kate also received formal training with H.H. Grand Master Lin Yun who is the founder of the Black Sect Tantric Buddhist Feng Shui tradition.
The teachings of Grand Master Lin Yun combine physiology, psychology, architecture, interior design, ecology, the arts, and color theory. Kate’s previous education (Bachelor of Science degree in Education and a Master’s Degree in Creative Arts) compliments this tradition of Feng Shui.
Frequently Asked Questions
When is feng shui appropriate?
You have probably experienced areas of your life that do not respond to your usual efforts. It is often these areas that respond best to feng shui. Among situations that can be successfully treated with feng shui are:
- selling or finding a home
- creating a personal oasis at home or at work
- protection from harmful intent of others
- increasing wealth
- renewing family harmony
- assisting safe travel
- enhancing health
- overturning threatening situations
- activating career changes
- promoting the recognition you deserve
- rekindling romance
- liberating creativity
- developing a business style to bring in more customers
- many others
What if I am not Chinese or Buddhist?
Feng shui is adaptable to any spiritual tradition, for in essence, it is simply creating a physical prayer out of the material environment. Even if you prefer to consider life from a philosophical or scientific viewpoint alone, feng shui works. One does not have to "believe in" electricity in order to turn on the lights. With feng shui, a resonant vibratory field is created which draws like circumstances to itself. Your heartfelt intent, expressed through the words and gestures of any tradition is combined with the feng shui adjustments to form a powerful attracting force which draws your dreams into reality.
Can Feng Shui help my business too?
Yes, it can help with the following:
attract customers
show products
display history
provide mini-vacations
gather wealth
teach
recognize good deeds
encourage values
lead to agreements
bring out creativity
soothe tensions
stimulate well-being
provide play
increase status
unite you with the town
welcome guests
be a respite
make your day!
It can also irritate, confine, depress, limit, make people feel stupid or afraid, turn clients away, overwhelm, undermine and otherwise cheat you out of everything you are working for. Don’t let your building undermine your expertise. Every desk and chair is talking to your clients. Make sure you know what they are saying. Feng shui makes your business speak the environmental language of success.
What happens during a consultation?
Feng shui works by aligning the material realm - your buildings, furniture and furnishings - with the invisible flow of energy called "chi." The Feng Shui Professional works on several levels to adjust the chi flow of your home or business: first, through time-honored feng shui adjustments from the Black Sect Tantric Buddhist tradition as taught by Grand Master Lin Yun; second, by suggesting decorating and design alterations which can be done at little or no cost; third, by suggesting business practices, lifestyle shifts or sacred rituals that will bring positive response; and fourth, by treating your emotional and physical space with reverence, thereby adding immediate life-enhancing chi to your environment. All of this happens during a walk through the building in which we talk about what is going on in the space. You are informed of everything your building and furnishings are saying in the language of feng shui and given exact guidance on how to create a harmonious and helpful environment.
Consultation fees vary according to the length of the consultation. A general rule of thumb is approximately $90 per hour. Therefore, most consultations are between $180-$270. An additional $25/hour for travel time may be requested if you live outside of the local area.

What is Celtic Reiki?
Celtic Reiki is a variation of Usui Reiki, using vibrations of specific trees and shrubs along with other Earth energies to assist in healing and manifestation. The frequency of the plants and trees work to channel energy up through the Base Chakra, rather than down through the Crown Chakra as in the traditional form of Reiki.
The Reiki energy mimics the frequency of various trees and plants to create a healing environment - one that is condusive to manifesting desired results in one’s life. Celtic Reiki uses symbols derived from the Celtic ogham (the ancient alphabet used by the Druids) which correspond to the trees and other nature sources used in a Celtic Reiki healing session.
Ogham (pronounced Oh-am) is the ancient form of writing of the Celtic peoples. The letters are cut as a series of notches. The Celtic alphabet made up of 25 letters called fews, each representing a different kind of Tree. These symbols are those used in a Celtic Reiki session.
The Ogham is the sacred Druidic alphabet, It was created by Celtic spiritual leaders so it could be used as a way of communicating secretively along with a way to remember the tree knowledge that had been acquired. The Celts had a strong affinity and reverance for trees, believing that they had spirits of their own and, as a result, were deeply connected to them and connected to the alphabet to them.
The Ogham was named after the Celtic deity, Ogma, the god of eloquence and learning. The alphabet consists of twenty letters - three sets of five consonants and five vowels - each correlating with the name of a tree. The species of trees that were used were chosen for their specific qualities (linking them to spiritual concepts).
All of the sy mbols used in Celtic Reiki are derived from the Ogham.

About Kate:
Kate is a Reiki Master in both the traditional form of Reiki (Usui) and Celtic Reiki. Celtic Reiki is a bit different from other forms of Reiki in that it uses the energy of the Earth and those of a select group of trees. These trees each represent a specific healing and/or manifestation property. These, along with the Earth’s energy, are used to implement a healing session specifically designed just for an individual’s needs. Kate received her training through Pamela Jordan and continues to learn this form of Reiki through readings from Martyn Pentecost the founder of Celtic Reiki. This form of Reiki is particularly exciting for Kate to work with because she is a lover of nature - especially trees and birds. She loves camping, hiking, golfing, taking walks through the woods and, of course, reading.
Member of the Celtic Reiki Federation - member number 1010
What is Celtic Reiki?
Celtic Reiki is an energy therapy that combines the principles of Reiki (working with the Universal Energy of all existing things) and the particular energies of nature. The Celts believed that nature (trees in particular) were very sacred and based much of their way of living on these “standing people” and the energy they seemed to emanate. Therefore, Celtic Reiki is a therapy that uses the energy of trees and nature and combines it with universal energy to benefit a person both therapeutically and also helps him/her to manifest things in life.
Reiki: What It Is and How It Works
Reiki is pronounced Ray-Key. Rei means "universal" and refers to the spiritual dimension and the soul. Ki means the "the vital life force energy" which flows through all that is alive.
When these Japanese characters are combined they present the concept of “universal life-force energy.”
Reiki is “universal” energy. Therefore, it is safely used at any time - any place. It expresses the quality of “unconditional” rather than “conditional.”
Reiki practitioners channel energy in a particular pattern to heal and harmonize. Unlike other healing therapies based on the premise of a human energy field, reiki seeks to restore order to the body whose vital energy has become unbalanced.
Reiki energy has several basic effects: it brings about deep relaxation, destroys energy blockages, detoxifies the system, provides new vitality in the form of healing universal life energy, and increases the vibrational frequency of the body.
Reiki is not a religion. It beholds no doctrines, creeds or contraindications to the Universal Laws of Consciousness and Love. No matter where the person may be at a certain point in their life, Reiki will harmonize and embrace their philosophical center point, adding to it the Divine Presence.
The Reiki Master (or practitioner) simply places her hands on the client and allows the energy to flow through the individual. It fills the practitioner’s body first and then flows out the heart through the practitioner’s hands into the client.
It is an extremely powerful healing energy and is one of the few forms of healing that can be used to heal oneself.
Reiki will either give to, or take away, the proper amount of energy to balance the Mind, Body, and Spirit. It has been known to affect the chemical structure of the body, helping to rebuild muscles, nerves, bone structure, and regenerating organs. It has also provided energy to balance and strengthen the spine. In fact, it is believed that it can change anything that needs to be changed within the physical and etheric organism, as long as it is for the Highest Good of the individual.
Reiki healing is a pure energy form. When it is combined with the sincere desire of the client, who is willing to effect a cleansing within their emotional and spiritual consciousness, a total healing occurs.
We must remember that the energy of the God-Force is neutral and waits positive, productive empowerment by the client. The practitioner plays an instrumental part in transformation, and yet, ultimately, it is up to the client to manifest harmony and balance in their life.
The practitioner is a channel and must not allow Ego to desire the client to be well. A practitioner must be a clear vessel through which the Reiki ray flows. This allows the Highest Soul Purpose to be the outcome of the session.
The Reiki Principles
Just for today, I will not anger.
Just for today, I will let go of worry.
Today, I will count my many blessings.
Today, I will do my work honestly.
Today, I will be kind to every living creature.
The Reiki principles are intended as guidelines for higher consciousness growth.
History of Reiki
Dr. Mikao Usui, founder of Usui Reiki
Reiki is believed to have begun in Tibet several thousand years ago. Seers in the Orient studied energies and developed a system of sounds and symbols for universal healing energies. Various healing systems, which crossed many different cultures, emerged from this single root system. Unfortunately, the original source itself was forgotten.
Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Christian educator in Kyoto, Japan, rediscovered the root system in the mid- to late 1800’s. He began an extensive twenty-one-year study of the healing phenomena of history’s greatest spiritual leaders. He also studied ancient sutras (Buddhist teachings written in Sanskrit). He discovered ancient sounds and symbols that are linked directly to the human body and nervous system which activate the universal life energy for healing.
Usui then underwent a metaphysical experience and became empowered to use these sounds and symbols to heal. He called this form of healing Reiki and taught it throughout Japan until his death around 1893.
The tradition was passed through several grandmasters of reiki such as Dr. Chujiro Hyashi, Hawayo Takata, and Phyllis Lei Furumoto.
There are many forms of Reiki being practiced now. The two principal ones are: "the Usui System of Natural Healing" and "the Radiance Technique."
The Usui System of Natural Healing balances and strengthens the body’s energy, promoting its ability to heal itself.
Reiki is useful in treating serious illnesses as well as others. Examples are: sports injuries, cuts, burns, internal diseases, emotional disorders, and stress-related illnesses.
Reiki was introduced to the Western world in the mid-1970’s. Since then its use has spread dramatically worldwide.
